Following the launch of the Australian M Series passport in November 2003, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and NPA began researching RFID chip insertion methodology to meet the requirements of the US visa waiver program. NPA was one of the first companies to issue a full range of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standard e-Passports.
